Citilink Airplane Atmosphere when the Plane is Quiet

PT Citilink Indonesia is a low-cost airline and a subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia. The company was established in 2001 as a Strategic Business Unit (SBU) and functions as an alternative to low-cost airlines in Indonesia. Since July 30, 2012 Citilink has officially operated as a separate business entity from Garuda Indonesia after obtaining the Air Operator Certificate (AOC). Citilink operates with 17 aircraft with a new logo, call sign and uniform. The airline's main connecting airport is Juanda International Airport in Surabaya. In 2001 Garuda Indonesia established Citilink as a low-cost airline and Citilink started its first operation on July 16 using 2 Fokker F28 type aircraft which were transferred from the main Garuda Indonesia fleet. The airline's initial route is from Surabaya on the island of Java to destinations not served by major airlines such as: Yogyakarta (also in Java); Balikpapan on the islands of Kalimantan and Tarakan, in the province of North Kalimantan, and Makassar on the island of Sulawesi. At the end of 2001 Garuda again transferred five Fokker-28 fleets to strengthen Citilink's fleet. In 2004 Citilink has served ten destinations and at that time Garuda began to replace Citilink's Fokker 28 with Boeing 737-300. In 2008 Garuda Indonesia temporarily suspended Citilink operations, and resumed operations in January 2009 after all Fokker F28 aircraft were replaced with more modern aircraft. In May 2011 Garuda Indonesia announced plans for a Citilink spin-off. The new business plan is for Citilink to become a separate business entity in the first quarter of 2012 with a complete brand overhaul for the airline, including a new livery design; new website; new cabin interior design and cabin crew uniforms; as well as new advertising and marketing strategies.

An integral part of this plan is that Citilink buys 25 new Airbus A320 aircraft and utilizes these aircraft to develop into a significant regional low-cost airline with the anticipated forecast that by 2015, Citilink will contribute 30 percent of revenue to Garuda Indonesia. After obtaining the Air Operator Certificate in August 2012, Citilink managed to transport as many as 8 million passengers by the end of 2013 and operates with a load factor of 85 percent and an on-time arrival rate of 87 percent. This aircraft will be used on flights to countries such as Germany, Japan and Saudi Arabia. The Citilink flight attendant uniforms are the result of a design contest for Citilink that was held in 2011. The uniforms are dominated by green with a hint of white, where green is the airline's base color in the hope of giving a smart, modern and striking look, so that Citilink crew will be easily recognizable at the airport.. The Cabin Crew Uniform Design Contest is one of Citilink's brand rejuvenation programs. On August 9, 2011, Garuda Indonesia ordered 25 Airbus A320 units with the option of an additional 25 aircraft, this order made Citilink a new customer for Airbus single aisle aircraft. This fleet revitalization program requires funds of around USD2.13 billion. In December 2012, Citilink ordered 25 ATR 72-600 with the option of ordering an additional 25 units. This is Citilink's first direct order to a manufacturer. Citilink's first fleet of A320s, is a second-hand aircraft that arrived at the end of June 2011 and commenced operations on 16 September 2011, connecting Jakarta with Balikpapan, Banjarmasin and Medan.

Citilink aircraft cabin has a 180 economy seat configuration. The seats in the first five rows and the emergency exit rows are marked with Green Zone seats, while the rest are marked with regular seats. Passengers who book Green zone seats or regular seats will be charged a certain fee. Seat reservations include snacks, drinks and insurance. On January 16, 2019, Citilink became the first low-cost airline in the Asia Pacific region to offer Wi-Fi On Board at 35,000 feet above ground level for free using the WiFi system from GX Aviation Systems.
